This is a fairly common problem that can not only be disappointing, it can potentially be dangerous depending on what the food item is. The video below describes a step by step guide on how to get your dog to stop doing this. It consists of using a “leave it” cue and a little bit of practice. This can work for food left on kitchen tables, coffee tables, or even counters.
